Kailash Mansarovar Darshan – Discover the Spiritual Essence.

Please review the Important Information tab: Kailash Mansarovar Yatra

The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is revered as one of the most sacred pilgrimages in Hinduism, making Kailash Mansarovar Darshan a spiritually transformative experience for devotees. Mount Kailash, a towering and majestic peak, is considered the abode of Lord Shiva, where he resides with Maa Parvati and the divine Devtas. According to Hindu mythology, this holy mountain holds immense cultural and spiritual significance.

The Kailash Mansarovar region captivates visitors with its breath-taking beauty, rich cultural heritage, and serene atmosphere. Known as the centre of the universe in ancient texts, Mount Kailash continues to draw devotees and adventurers from around the globe. Many believe that embarking on the Kailash Mansarovar Darshan can absolve one’s sins and purify the soul, offering a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to connect with the divine.

The mystical Lake Mansarovar, nestled near Mount Kailash, is another highlight of the pilgrimage. As per Hindu mythology, the lake was first envisioned in the mind of Lord Brahma before manifesting on Earth. This is why it is called ‘Manasarovar,’ derived from the Sanskrit words ‘Manasa’ (mind) and ‘Sarovaram’ (lake).

Lake Mansarovar is not only revered for its spiritual significance but also admired for its serene beauty. It serves as a summer haven for the sacred Hamsa (swan), a symbol of wisdom and purity in Hindu culture. Witnessing the tranquil waters of Lake Mansarovar during the Kailash Mansarovar Darshan is an unforgettable experience, blending natural beauty with profound spirituality.

For devotees of Lord Shiva, merely catching a glimpse of Mount Kailash during their lifetime is considered a divine blessing. Whether it is the sacred mountain, the pristine lake, or the transformative journey itself, the Kailash Mansarovar Darshan holds unparalleled significance in Hindu Dharma.

December 1, 2024: We are excited to share the latest updates from the Tibet Travel Bureau regarding the Kailash Mansarovar Parikrama for Indian passport holders. According to the latest information, there is a high likelihood that the Yatra will resume in 2025.
In 2025, there are two options available for the Kailash Mansarovar Darshan:
  1. From India (via Lipulekh Pass, Uttarakhand): Offers a distant view of Mount Kailash from approximately 60 kilometers away but does not include a sighting of Lake Mansarovar.
  2. From Nepal (via Limi Lapcha Pass): Provides an exceptional view of both Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar, with the vantage point located just 6 kilometers away.
Please note that, since the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, both the inner and outer parikrama have not been permitted for Indian passport holders. Be cautious of misleading advertisements

Kailash Mansarovar Yatra Update 2025

  • Permit Suspension: The issuance of Kailash permits for Indian passport holders by the China Indian Pilgrimage Service (CIPS) was halted due to political issues and restrictions following the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Possible Reopening: Improved relations between India and China, showcased at the BRICS Summit, suggest that the route may reopen by April 2025.
  • Cautionary Note: No official confirmation has been issued yet. Travelers are strongly advised not to book the Parikrama tour in advance without a formal notification from the Government of India.

Entry Requirements (If Permits Resume)

To undertake the Kailash Yatra, travelers typically need the following documents:
  1. Chinese Visa: A standard visa is required for entry into China.
  2. Tibet Travel Permit: Issued by the Tibet Tourism Bureau, mandatory for all foreign visitors to Tibet.
  3. Alien’s Travel Permit (PSB Permit): Issued by the Tibetan Local Public Security Bureau, necessary for accessing restricted areas, including Mount Kailash.

Restrictions for Indian Passport Holders

  • The Tibetan Local Public Security Bureau has suspended issuing Alien Travel Permits (PSB Permits) to Indian passport holders, effectively barring access to the Kailash region.
  • Current Access: Only Indian passport holders who have been residing in China for more than three years are eligible to undertake this trip, provided they meet all permit requirements.
