The Secret route of Alang fort from Ghatghar village.

Futkyachi Vaat – Edkyachi Vaat – Paland Vaat Trek | फुटक्याची वाट – एडक्याची वाट – पलंद वाट

Among the two main routes to Alang Fort, one from Ambewadi and another from Uddavane, there is a hidden, secret route from Ghatghar. This path, known as ‘Phutkyachi Wat,’ ‘Paland Wat,’ and ‘Edkya Wat,’ provides an alternative way to climb Alang. These three paths from Ghatghar converge with the Uddavane path on a plateau, where all four routes ascend to Alang Matha through Ganesh Darwaja. Along this path to Ganesh Darwaja, numerous carved steps are still visible, and recently, the government has installed four new stairs to facilitate the climb.

As we ascend from the Ghatghar path to the plateau, we encounter a small fortification and 8-10 carved steps. Similar fortifications can also be seen near the edge of Edkya Wat. The route along the falcon’s trail also leads to this plateau, which features more carved steps. Given these fortifications and carved steps, it is likely that the plateau once housed water tanks, houses, or outposts. In a recent conversation with Eknath from Ghatghar, he confirmed the presence of a dug tank on this plateau. Therefore, if these features typical of a fort are present on this plateau, it should be considered part of the fort itself.

In essence, the steps on the path to Futkya likely mark the first gate of Alang Fort, while Ganesh Darwaja serves as the second gate.
