Explore the Magnificent Malshej Ghat Trek: A Monsoon Adventure Near Mumbai & Pune

Discover breathtaking views of Taramati Peak, Rohidas, Bhairavgad, Kombada, and Thidbi on the Malshej Ghat trek. Along this route, you’ll encounter the stunning 1200 ft Kaalu Waterfall and numerous smaller waterfalls during the monsoon season. As you descend the Malshej Ghat trek trail, marvel at the Ganpati idol carved into a rock wall, rock-cut steps, and water cisterns that showcase the historical significance of this ancient path. Recently, Malshej Ghat has become a popular trekking spot near Mumbai and Pune, especially during the monsoon.

Historical Significance of the Malshej Ghat Trek
The Malshej Ghat trek follows an ancient trading route established during the Satavahana dynasty (200 BCE – 190 CE). This pass connects Ghatmatha, the mountain’s highest point in the Junnar region, to the Kokan base. Historically, it facilitated trade between Kalyan (near Mumbai) and Junnar, serving villagers and traders alike during the Satavahana reign.

Trekking Experience: Start to Finish
Your adventure begins beside the Malshej MTDC entry gate and concludes in the village of Savarne or Tithbi/Waghachi Wadi. Trekking during the monsoon reveals numerous small waterfalls and offers a deep jungle trekking experience amidst captivating cloudy surroundings. Witness the majestic Kaalu Waterfall from the base as you cross the Kaalu stream and Rethicha Jhura. Before the trek ends, you can enjoy cliff jumping into crystal-clear waters and natural sliding at the Taramati flowing stream.
